Marcus Garvey Blvd / Albany Ave

Marcus Garvey Blvd is a walk that has been a long time coming. It should've happened much sooner, and if there was a reason why I put off walking here, I might go back to the time that I walked Throop Ave, which was probably a couple years ago, which was the only time I was stopped by someone asking for money. I did offer her a couple dollars for Pampers. While I did this, she tried to nonchalantly grab more out of my hand. She relented when I told her that I needed the rest to get home. Walking with a wheeled backpack and looking like a professional of some kind, she might've thought I needed more than enough for a subway ride.

If any case, after walking Nostrand, Marcy, Tompkins and Throop, I stopped walking south from Flushing to Fulton.

However, in the past few months, I've walked eastward along most of the streets in Bed-Stuy that run parallel to Flushing and run into Fulton without any incident, and in fact, I greeted or smiled at a lot of people. (I even walked past Queen Latifah who was on her phone, on a break from filming. (Her security guard wasn't one of the people greeting or smiling at me!)

So here I was.

There was an amusing start to this. I went to a pizzeria on Union Ave that was reccommended by an app. I figured that I could get a train on Broadway and ride to Flushing Ave to get to Marcus Garvey. But at Union and Broadway, I only saw the G train. I knew the M was close but I didn't know which direction to go in, so I walked toward Flushing and got to the station at Lorimer. I missed two trains in the two block walk, but I had time to eat my pizza. (Good stuff, a little oily). Then the train came and I realized that I only had to go one stop. At this point, I could've just kept walking the entire way instead of splitting the trip into two parts.

Here's a shot of the start of Marcus Garvey Blvd taken from the station. Oddly enough, I've walked this first block before to get to Park Ave. So I walked down to Ellery Street, which runs between Broadway and Marcus Garvey. There was a Mexican Bakery which caught my eye, but I just stuff myself with pizza, but I took a picture so I'd remember to come back when I'm in the area again. I have a bunch of streets between Beaver/Bushwick and Broadway to cover when the weather's warmer.

I had nothing to "fear" walking down this street, but it was busy and loud. This makes sense because it's a major road, like Nostrand, not a side street like the ones I'd been walking in the area. I'd crossed this avenue many times, and I even recognized some of the corner stores. (I might've actually been inside some of them within the past year.)

The first two photos below are my establishing shot at Park Ave, and then the front of the Armory at 357 Marcus Garvey between Putnam and Jefferson Aves. This was my third time passing it, but the first time in front of it.

No, I didn't take any pictures in between. In retrospect, I'm a little surprised but it was mostly store fronts and businesses.

If anyone could tell me what kind of car this is, just drop it in the comments. I didn't want to walk across the street and start talking pictures of a stranger's car, even if they are used to it.

Bethany Baptist Church is on the corner of Decatur. I may have taken pictures of this before.

A block later, I was on Fulton St. Turning right, a short walk brought me to Albany Ave, which actually starts at Decatur St and not Fulton, so I had to go a block out of my way and then double back.

The next three photos are Albany Ave taken from Decatur, looking toward Fulton, from Fulton looking toward Hekimer, and from just past Hekimer, looking at the LIRR above Atlantic Ave. The light changed and traffic was coming, so I couldn't take too much time getting that last shot.

At that brings me back to Eastern Parkway, once again. The was a full moon above the trees. I hoped if I focused on the branches that the moon might come into focus. My phone can't focus on the Moon -- it just becomes a blob.

I might've stopped to film another promo for my books, but other than that, this is the end of the line.

Until next time.
