Walkin' In Brooklyn

You can subtract about a mile from this one. Despite the amount of time I spent waiting for a subway, so I didn't pause the app right away. Thankfully, I remembered before I'd gotten too far, but I'd been waiting a long time after just missing a train. Back to Sunset Park to finish off some more streets, but not as many as I planned -- which is what happened the last time I'd gone down there as well. I was walking from Third Ave down to First Ave (which is actually northwest but downhill) and as close to the shoreline as I could get. After the first three streets, I scooted over to 58th Street to get to the subway. (I went to Fifth Ave to a store first.) and then I made of getting the N toward home instead of going back toward 36th Street. Not that it really would've mattered. I'd just missed a train and everything got screwed up after that, leaving me waiting for quite a while! M...

An interesting video to start my trip, taken at the 45th Street Station before I even started my walk: This walk was split up to avoid crossing Third Avenue under the Gowanus repeatedly. Still, the hills in Sunset Park were something. This was a quiet and uneventful walk, starting down 46th Street (which would be northwest on the map but it was absolutely downhill!) then along 3rd Ave and up (and uphill) 47th Street. Repeat until 55th Street. I pass a lot of religious statues, figures, and symbols in front of people's homes while doing these walks. This one on 51th Street caught my eye, probably because it was colorful, but partly its position in the corner. Many times, they're centerpieces in garden (or rocks or dirt). From 55th Street, I was over to 59th Street to catch an N train back to 36th to get a D instead of riding into Bensonhurst and catching a bus home. And that's it for ...

Later in the day, after I'd gone to the  Brooklyn Army Terminal , someone online asked me if I went to  Bush Terminal Park . To which I responded, "What?" Apparently, I had walked past another entrance to the Brooklyn waterfront and hadn't noticed it. In retrospect, mind you, I actually did notice an entrance. I just didn't think it was a public entrance to a public park. Let me start by saying that this first picture was one of the last ones I took. This entrance is not visible from First Avenue . It's off the beaten path. Since I was coming from the higher-numbered streets, I saw this, which I assume is the "back entrance", first. I have driven into this parking lot many times (there was a store there I used to go to, but I'm not legally allowed to talk about anymore). I never saw this sign and never knew that there was a road open to the public here.  Interestingly, Google Maps shows the 50th Street continues below 1st Avenue and then...
