Walink' in Brooklyn: How Far I've Walked plus a Quarterly Update

Image
I've walked the streets of Brooklyn my entire life. I had to -- we didn't have a car. Oh, the bus and train were available, but they cost money and didn't always go where we needed to go. And sometimes, walking was just faster. And walking lets you cut through parks and walk on the walls and stuff. Anyway, sometime back in 2019, I started keeping track of the streets I was walking along. Before that, I mostly walked a triangle or rectangle of blocks near my house and sometimes ventured down to the Coney Island Boardwalk (taking a train there and a bus back on the same fare!). In the six and a half years since then, it has exploded thanks to encouragement from people online. And, yes, I took some of their taunts as challenges. When I started going north to south, I also started making my way east, but not fast enough for some people. This past summer (2025), I traveled out to East New York and started walking west. It turns out Brooklyn isn't as big and scary as it...

Quarterly Update: April - June 2025 and since May 2019

I had 24 walks in the past 3 months. There were a couple of obstacles including the large amount of rain NYC got in the last couple months. And, of course, I spent a lot of time in the hospital with my brother. He didn't walk out of the hospital or leave in a wheelchair. It was a difficult time for me with a side-effect that I didn't go for as many walks for a while. Aside from that (and that was A LOT!), I filled in some gaps in different neighborhoods. I started doing more streets in Bed-Stuy, Crown Heights and Bushwick during the winter because of the early sunsets. I didn't want to walk through Flatbush or Sheepshead Bay after dark. But at least my trips are moving farther south from Williamsburg and farther east from Prospect Park and Green-Wood Cemetery. If you have any questions about the map, please, leave them in the comments, and I'll answer them as soon as I can. ALSO: Please buy, read, and review my books! Most are available on Kindle Unl...

Recent Walks (September 2024 - January 2025)

Image
Welcome to my new followers who found me from reddit. I'm slow to upload new entries because I take all the photos on my phone, but I update the blog on my PC, and getting the two to talk to each is a pain sometimes. Feel free to comment if you see this. It's nice to know I'm not just talking to myself! Anyway, here are some of my recent routes, going back to September, sans street and building photos. I included a four-hour walk at the Bronx Zoo but I left out my neighborhood bagel runs and the walks at Niagara Falls (both the NY and Canadian sides). I did a lot of walking from Bushwick into Bedford-Stuyvesant, a few walks through Prospect Heights into Park Slope, and more of Carroll Gardens and the areas near the Promenade. ...
