Walkin' In Brooklyn

I had not planned on finishing Bedford Ave on that fateful July morning, but this is what happened. I'd walked Bedford Ave from its beginning in Greenpoint where it shoots off from Manhattan Ave all the way (over the course of a few walks) down to Eastern Parkway. My plan that morning was to walk down to Kings Highway and save the last part of it for another day. The first picture shows Bedford Ave, looking south. A few blocks later, I came to the former site of Ebbets Field, the final home of the Brooklyn Dodgers. I knew it was somewhere in this area, but I've never actually looked for it. Moving on, Bedford Ave stops being commericial and turns residential. There are still apartment buildings but even that will change to smaller homes. As always, I'm prone to taking pictures of old churches just because of the architecture. The first is the Grace Reformed Church of Flatbush. Not a lot of pictures today. I was filling in a gap after making a map-reading error on my last walk. (This has happened to me a couple of time now. I should go back to writing out my directions.) I took the bus along Ave U to get to E 28 Street. I looped around E27 and E26 Streets. That was a little over two miles, so I walked up to Kings Highway. And these things ALWAYS happen, I just missed a Kings Highway bus and the next one wasn't for 20 minutes, even though it was still technically morning rush hour. Go figure. There are more SELECT buses, but I had a 12-block walk to get to the Select bus stop. And two of those came along before the local did. It was early, but sunny, so I had a huge shadow. I went down E27 first and came back up E26. Then I walked over to E28 up to Kings Highway.

Part 3 of filling in this section of Sheepshead Bay had me walking up Sheepshead Bay Road, and down East 11 Street, with a side quest down Lancaster Ave and back along Crawford Ave. Those two avenues are three blocks long, much larger than the average block breaker. I'm not done with Sheepshead Bay by any means. Just this section. The above map is a screenshot of the Map My Walk app, taken last Thursday, March 2, 2023. I started by walking up Sheepshead Bay Road where Ave Z cuts two triangular plots of land, like a bowtie. Only one has any greenspace though. Sheepshead Bay Rd merges into E 13th Street, which held a surprise for me. I saw a street sign for Margaret Court. I crossed over to look for this hidden street.
