46th - 55th Street / 3rd - 4th Avenues

An interesting video to start my trip, taken at the 45th Street Station before I even started my walk:

This walk was split up to avoid crossing Third Avenue under the Gowanus repeatedly. Still, the hills in Sunset Park were something.

This was a quiet and uneventful walk, starting down 46th Street (which would be northwest on the map but it was absolutely downhill!) then along 3rd Ave and up (and uphill) 47th Street.

Repeat until 55th Street.

I pass a lot of religious statues, figures, and symbols in front of people's homes while doing these walks. This one on 51th Street caught my eye, probably because it was colorful, but partly its position in the corner. Many times, they're centerpieces in garden (or rocks or dirt).

From 55th Street, I was over to 59th Street to catch an N train back to 36th to get a D instead of riding into Bensonhurst and catching a bus home.

I'm almost finished with Bed-Stuy as I make my way to Broadway Junction. I'm saying Eastern Parkway for warmer weather and more daylight (after work) because I'd like to see if I can walk it in one shot. The last four roads that I had to zig-zag were MacDougal, Hull, Somers, and Truxton. They's at such an acute angle that I walked quite a bit down Fulton street to get from one road to the next. All together, it was only about 15 blocks, not counting Fulton, DeSales, and Sackman Street. The map shows a side street between DeSales and Eastern Parkway, but it's a road through a parking lot and not a proper street. There are sidewalks are each end and no street name. First off, walking to the Dead End with Holy Cross Cemetery beyond it covered in snow. Then about face for the two blocks to Broadway. Carroll / Crown / Ford Streets

No video, because I was walking with News 12. Their video can be found here . I arrived early do I looped around a few blocks to the park, and then returned to Franklin Ave and Eastern Parkway to wait for Rob Flaks from News 12 to arrive. Together, we walked a ways down Carroll Street while he filmed and asked me questions. He kept up with me until about Brooklyn Ave before returning to his car. I made it down to Lincoln Terrace / Arthur S. Somers Park. Normally, I wouldn't cross through the park unless I needed to get to the other side, but in this particular case, I needed to use the bathroom. I'd been out for several hours now and had had a couple of large coffees. (The map above says 1:51:40 but there was a lot of waiting in there when the app was paused.) I returned through Crown Heights along Crown Street until Nostrand Ave where I got the IRT back to Atlantic Ave. I hadn't expected that walk to be four and a half miles. A Short Walk Around the Brooklyn Botanic Garden

I recently took a walk in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. I was meeting an old friend whom I used to work with. She wanted a copy of my book. Jackie is also successful online with a large follower and has traveled around the world since she retired from teaching. There isn't much to say, except that the two of us might've gotten lost looking for each other. We, unfortunately, used different entrances, and the roads are twisty in the garden. I finally met her by the rose garden. So there are some random pictures of trees and flowers, followed by some of the celebrities on the Brooklyn Walk of Fame. Brooklyn has its own Walk of Fame. Some of the stones have faded a bit, and a few of them (near the sides of the walk) are covered with foilage.
