Cooper Ave / Rockaway Ave / Sutter Ave

Another venture into Bushwick and this time venturing into Brownsville as I try to close out my map. The funny thing is that I want to walk in Brooklyn, but I've been pushing into Queens a little because I'm not exactly sure where the boundaries are. This trip was all Brooklyn.

The first leg of the journey was up Moffat St and then down Cooper Ave.
Once I got onto Rockaway Ave, I found another free little library. Nothing of interest in it, and I didn't have any books to leave behind.

I pretty much kept to myself for the length of the walk. There weren't a lot of people around, and of those I passed, no one looked at me funny, but being on a major road, unlike previous walks, made me feel a little exposed. I tried to keep a decent pace.

Rockaway Ave by Eastern Parkway and East New York Ave.

Sometimes I like to sample food in the area. Oka, usually, it's cheap slices of pizza, but occasionally, I've hit a taco place (or truck). Usually, I want something I can eat as I walk - so meals are right out. And also, I have to keep in mind that the nearest bathroom I can use (would use) is an hour away, if the local food hits hard.

I saw that empanadas were $2.50 each, so I tried to get 2 chicken and 2 beef, but they were out of chicken so I got 2 cheese instead. I don't know how they rang it up -- the register was facing away from me -- by it cost me exactly $12.00 for four of them. I say "exactly" because it seems quite odd that tax would be two dollars, not that I expected them to charge me tax on food when I'm paying cash. I thought I saw a $1.00 charge flash on the register right before I saw it was $12. In any case, they were still good for the price I paid even if I thought I was being ripped off a little. The woman behind the register didn't feel the need to explain the charge.

Next up was a little side-trip up a dead-end street named Glenmore Ave. It looks like it has a pass-through walkway, so I may be passing through here again some day.

And finally I'm on Sutter Ave. For all the jokes, here we go -- I'm in Brownsville. And, like MacArthur, I will return.

Finally back to Sutter and Rutland and the 3 train that would get me back to Barclays. Until next time!
