Chauncey Street & Troy Ave
My walk on January 29, as it says on the screenshot was down Chauncey Street and Troy Ave, starting in Bushwick, walking through Bed-Stuy, and ending up in Crown Heights on Eastern Parkway.
As the next few photos will attest, I overshot Wilson Ave because I was looking at something on my phone, and I continued to Broadway Junction to make my way back. I didn't know if I could switch platforms at Aberdeen/Buskwick, so I stayed on until the Junction. So I took a few shots of the tracks and the train yards.
First things first: when I walked along Central Ave to get to Chauncey Street, I saw the "No Outlet" sign. For those who don't know, the difference between "No Outlet" and "Dead End" is that a dead end street is just the one block. On the other hand, No Outlet means that there could be several different streets past that point but if you go in, you still have to come back this way. A check of my map showed that Central Ave continued after the overpass and that Piling Street was branched off on the right. What Google Maps didn't show was that Central Ave did hit a Dead End as it was gated off and beyond the gate was private property.
The was a path to the North that I didn't take, and there was an entrance to Holy Cross Cemetery that was worthy of a picture.
With that detour out of the way, it was back to Chauncey Street. I took my customary first picture, but I've learned recently that I need more photos later on. The first block off a major avenue, or one right next to a cemetery or an industrial area, is usually terrible looking compared to the streets and the houses just a few blocks away. Here was no exception as the residential area got so much better.
I had to make a stop at 328 Chauncey (and I had to backtrack because I was on the odd-numbered side of the street, but the two sides weren't aligned properly). For those who don't know, this was the address given for Ralph and Alice Kramden in the classic TV series, The Honeymooners. The only problem is that their apartment would have been in a bigger building, not to mention that they were supposed to live, I believe, in Bensonhurst. If nothing else, they were supposed to be a few blocks from the train, which this house definitely is not.
Chauncey Street is interrupted, but I walked through to the other side.
And, of course, I'm a sucker for church pics, even "scaled down" ones such as this. This is the Church of the Holy Rosary - St Martin de Porres.
Almost at the end of Chauncey Street. I got to Fulton Park. I'd past by (and through) there a few times now. I stopped to film a couple of quick videos to advertise my books (which are fiction, not about Walking' in Brooklyn). If you're interested, leave a comment and I'll post more information.
And that's the end of Chauncey Street, walked end and end and through a park. But wait! There's more!
Rather that hop on the A train at Utica, I took a left turn down Troy Ave, and extended the trip to Eastern Parkway where I caught a 4 train.
Bonus video of me on the 4 train. I have to edit it to show my book:
