Menahan, Buskwick, Patchen, Rochester

I usually send myself little maps so I know where I'm supposed to be walking, but occassionally, I get them wrong. As you might make out on the Map above, I stepped off Wyckoff at Bleecker, which didn't seem right to me. It seemed familar, but I've crisscrossed the area a few times. However, by the time I got to Myrtle Aveune, I recognized the Popeye's that had been built inside an old building (and nearby the police precinct). I shifted a block over to Menahan for the rest of the way to Broadway. This means I have a couple of blocks to make up. This is detailed in the two videos.

The first picture was the best way to start my walk: my initials painted onto a sign! Of course, I took it, and it was one of the 10 Instagram photos I posted. (I limit myself to 10 usually because Threads doesn't allow crossposting to 20 yet.)

After that is a shot of Bleecker, and then a shot of Menahan, where I meant to be.

I can't read the sign on the Church but it appears to be Iglesia de Dios Hispana Pentecostal.

A right turn brought me a few blocks of Bushwick Ave, which I have to do at some point in the future.

When I see a street name like this, I usually wonder what the story is behind it. If it's not the name of a famous person who used to live on that block, then it's likely to be a sad story. And this one is a sad story. Jose Sucuzhanay was the vicitm of a bias attack back in 2008.

Once I crossed Broadway, I turned south on Patchen Ave. I'd been to this intersection before, but then I'd gone west.

I passed by a community garden and another church.

I didn't stop into this place, but I took a picture for the next time I'm in the area. I do like to check out places to eat, but at the same time, I don't want to stop, so I look for food that can be eaten on the go, like pizza or tacos. Maybe next time.

My new thing is to use an app to scout out some Little Free Libraries. I didn't take a picture of the first one, which was on a side street that I'd traveled before, but I did take video.

The second one was basically empty, which was a shame because it was right next to a community garden, which would be a great place to read.

When I got to Fulton Street, there was a triangular plot of land formed by the last block of Sumpter Street which was orphaned from the rest of Sumpter by the large housing project which took up six square blocks.

After that, it's onto Rochester Ave, which will take me once again to Eastern Parkway.

And that's it until next time. Except for the usual schpiel about my books:
