Park Slope 8th-9th Ave streets
Continuing my quest to finish off the side streets of Park Slope, many of which I walked and biked when I was much younger. I took the G train to 7th Ave and got off at the 8th Ave end, and then walked over to 11th Street to pick up where I left off.
The first place I had to stop at was this building on Prospect Park West just off 11th St. That window to the left of the front door goes into the apartment where my grandparents lived when I was very little. My grandmother passed when I was in kindergarten and grandpa moved not long afterward. I remember climbing those steps and have some memories inside. And, of course, I have memories of the playground in the park across the street.
After this, it's basically, down one block and up the next. I took some photos of doorways that interested me. I mean, "Waldorf"? Okay, click!
This brings me to Bartell-Pritchard Square (which is a circle) where we used to switch buses to get out to grandpa's new house way out in Flatlands.
If I've ever been in Farrell's, it was a long, long time ago. I'm talking half a century, if ever. I don't recall my father ever going in there with my brother and me. I have friends who live in the area who are or were regulars, but I've never joined them. And, honestly, unless I was with someone, I couldn't see myself taking a trip there just to take a trip there.
I don't know what was going on here, but I definitely needed a picture!
I didn't attend this school, but I remember attend summer camp here two summers in a row until other options became available closer to home.
I spent a bit of time in this playground as a kid, even though it's nowhere near our house growing up, but that goes with the next photo.
I only vaguely remember "Jack" and his wife (and I don't remember her name), but they were friends of my Dad. He would visit sometimes when out with me and my brother. I remember running around in the garden that was along the side of the house. The garden got smaller, though, because it was cut back a bit, and because kids get bigger and those bushes get smaller.
Last street before the subway.
And that's it until next time. Except for the usual schpiel about my books:
