Brighton Beach Streets (between Belt Parkway and Neptune)
Yes, that's only a video of the waves. I went to the beach an hour or so after sunrise, and then I went for a walk on the sidestreets in Brighton Beach. Let me tell you -- finding legal parking down there, even metered spaces, isn't easy. I circled a bit and didn't like where I came to. I ended up messing up my walk a little compared to the map I had worked out in advance.
After leaving the beach, I found a stop on E12 Street, next to the overpass. and walked up to Shore Parkway. I skipped past Homecrest Ave because that was supposed to on the way back. Otherwise, I'd be walking in a circle. Instead, I went to E13 Street, which is a dead end street because of the Brighton line passing through.
Back up at Shore Parkway, the Belt is backed up badly. I have no idea what the situation was. The next photo is where Shore Parkway bends at E 15 Street. I'd get back to E 15 Street. For now, I was still walking east. At E 16 Street, there was an empty triangular plot. The street on the far side of this field needed to be walked. And I'd get to that, too. But I kept going to Ocean Ave circled the block and came up E 19th Street.
Back along Shore Parkway and down Bay Court and another picture of Sixteen Lindens Triangle, which is named for the 16 Linden trees bordering the park. Then up and down E16 Street, back up E15 Street and finally down E14 Street. After that, I went back toward my car along Emmons Ave/Neptune Ave.
At this point, I knew something was off. It was quite sunny, so reading my phone was difficult. That's how I wound up missing Homecrest Ave. One street in the middle of a bunch of stuff I've already walked.
Instead, I made my way over to the other side of the E 12 Street bridge, which is where I'd planned to start my walk if I could've found a parking spot over there, or on the other side of Coney Island Ave. (In fact, I tried this route once before but had to abandon it because of the parking rules at the time wouldn't have allowed me to get very far.)
Guider Ave was actually light enough on traffic that I could get a picture. One block brought me to a short segment of E 11 Street. Over to Coney Island Ave, and back to E 11 St. Turning north, I went to Banner Ave, doubled back toward E 12 St, and then circled around to Lawn Court.
After that, it was north to Shore Parkway, once again. This time, I could walk under the bridge all the way back to Guider Ave. Since I'd walked that block before, I decided to climb the steps and walk through the park.
Up Coney Island Ave, back to the Belt, and over to E 11 St to get to Blake Court, and back along the Belt.
There was a lot of backtracking on this route!
Finally, I walked down E 12 Street, next to the Bridge, but just for good measure, I walked over the bridge and back before I finally got back to my car.
The final two pictures are birds by the Belt, like a Hitchcock film in the making, and coming off the bridge.
And that's it for this trip. Come back soon.
