Debevoise Ave / Jackson / Kingsland / Frost / Lombardy / Cherry St / Morgan Ave
This was a quick walk, but not quite quick enough. I actually chopped off part of my original route. The reason for that was I had an extended lunch break before afternoon parent-teacher conferences started. Since I didn't have enough time to get home (mass transit being unreliable in the middle of the day, if I missed any connections, I would've been late), I decided to hit an area near to school, which on a chilly, cloudy November day seemed pretty bleak.
There were more streets than I entered on Map My Walk. For that matter, I didn't list them all in the header, either.
I didn't take a video (at least there isn't one saved on my hard drive), so here's a video from a couple days before!
From school, I head north on Bushwick Ave until it ended at Metropolitan and turned into Woodpoint Road and then turned right onto Maspeth Road. I skirted around the Barbara Kleiman Residence, up Debevoise Ave and Jackson Street -- where I saw the smokestack -- and back to Kingsland Road.
Right turn at Frost Street, which I think I meant to take to Morgan Ave, but only went as far as Debevoise Ave, which continued on the other side of the residence. I'll make up the rest on a future walk. (This, of course, means retracing many steps that I've already walked!)
One block of Division Place and a block of Baedel Street followed.
Kingsland Ave continues under the BQE, but I was heading east along Lombardy. I wasn't sure if "Grandparents Ave" was another name for Kingsland or if it was the cross-street (Meeker Ave). Google assures me that it's a section of Kingsland Ave.
Let me say that there is nothing like a chilly, dreary day to walk long industrial streets on your way to nowhere, stopping short of Newton Creek. Google Maps lists Scott Ave, but that is beyond the end of the public portion of Lombardy. It's on private property, and could even be a "trap street".
Making a U-turn (the first photo), I doubled back to Graham Ave, which I walked up to Meeker, and back down to Anthony Street.
Here's where it got interesting. I already had to dodge trucks maneuriving into and out of garages, or just turning one way or another, on Anthony Street. I was supposed to walk down (south on) Stewart Ave. However, there was so much construction going on that it looked even less safe than Anthony did. (And I likely would've been stopped or arrested.)
However Number 2: Google Maps didn't show a path north on Stewart to Cherry Street, which runs next to the BQE over here instead of Meeker Ave. A car can't go this way, but people can, so I went north to Cherry.
Cherry St ends and become Meeker Ave, which I took to Morgan Ave. By this point, I was running a little late, so I took Morgan as a straight shot down to Grand St and made my way back to school.
There are still a bunch of little streets over here that I'm going to have to hit another time.
And that's it for this trip. Come back soon.
